Verran calls on MAN for truck fleet replacement

Tractor Units
Thames Valley warehouse and distribution firm Verran Freight has taken delivery of seven MAN 26.440BLS 6x2 tractor units, bringing the number of vehicles on the Abingdon-based haulier to 16.
"The commitment from MAN, and particularly from Cordwallis in Reading, is what really impressed us," says Verran director, Steven Joyce. "We take a holistic approach to buying trucks. The front end [tractor unit] cost comes first, of course, but, dealer and aftersales support is a very close second. It is the first time MAN has supplied Verran Freight with trucks, but Joyce says the reaction to the vehicles, which started operations last month (February), has been very positive. "The MAN EcoStyle driver performance system is an incredible advancement for us," he states. "We have seven identical trucks, which means the only variable is the driver." Joyce says that there is already a healthy competitive spirit among the drivers. "The payback for the company is improved fuel economy, and, importantly, a narrower range of fuel figures across the fleet."
