Volvo’s FM Lite tractor unit proves weight conscious on waste operations

Tankers
The 4R Group has taken delivery of a new Volvo FM11 Lite 6x2 tractor unit to haul its recently acquired D-Tec lightweight tanker trailer.

Supplied by Darren Padfield at Truck and Bus Wales & West, the FM was specified with a Volvo D11K engine rated at 444bhp, coupled to the I-Shift automated transmission.

The truck’s arrival represents a first in 44-tonne commercial vehicle applications for the 4R Group and it will operate on waste liquid collection works from anaerobic digestion plants around South Wales and Gloucestershire. 4R Group has also taken advantage of the Volvo Gold Contract for repairs and maintenance, which delivers carefree ownership and more time to focus on maximising profitability.

“Quality, weight and price were three of our key pointers when shopping around for a new truck,” reported Rick Aldridge, operations manager south for 4R Group. “We were governed by the weight of our new tanker trailer’s 29,500 litre capacity and Volvo’s FM11 with its Lightweight pusher axle fitted the bill,” Rick added.

4R Group also opted for Volvo’s Dynafleet telematics to provide real time information on the exact location and status of drivers and their trucks.

“Our new Volvo FM11 Lite tractor unit is doing exactly what Volvo said it would and is performing extremely well,” Rick declared.

4R Group specialises in the recycling of organic waste materials and has been operating for over 11 years. Collectively the staff possess over 430 years’ experience as a group across the environmental, agricultural and waste sectors.

Annually, the company recycles over 600,000 tonnes of organic materials to land, of which, the majority are classed as regulated, controlled wastes. 4R Group believes that waste materials should be exploited for their beneficial values, allowing them to be recovered, which in turn enables significant volumes to be diverted from less environmentally responsible disposal. The majority of wastes handled are recycled on land for agricultural use or used for the manufacture and creation of soils in a range of land restoration projects.
