Supertrucks the clear choice for GG Glass

Contract glazier GG Glass and Glazing has taken delivery of the first of a pair of new specialist vehicles, with bodies by Supertrucks.

Based on 7.5-tonne Isuzu chassis, the trucks have a double A-frame design concept. This offers four facings and enables sheets of glass measuring 3.2m in height and 4.5m in length to be crane-loaded from the rear.

The vehicles feature aluminium extrusions which are powder-coated in white for appearance and durability, as well as the corrosion-resistant stainless steel fixings which are a Supertrucks ‘trademark’.

GG Glass has been a customer of Supertrucks for eight years – it has 40 3.5-tonne panel vans, kitted out by Supertruck, as director Roy Williams explains: “Supertrucks’ fixtures and fittings are manufactured to a very high standard and good for a second or even third life, so when we stand a van down we’ll always remove its glass-carrying components and fit them to a new vehicle.”

Regarding its latest requirement, he says: “We could have gone for a variety of configurations, but when Supertrucks came up with the double A-frame design we quickly realised it would be ideal.

“These vehicles are workhorses and used solely to carry glass, so the fact that the back is open does not present any issues – it is also significantly less expensive than an enclosed vehicle.”

The two new additions are being purchased outright. The first truck has gone into operation, at the operator’s Liverpool headquarters; the second will enter service son at its Leeds depot.
