Engineering Manager, Fulwell - £40 – 45K + benefits

London United is proud to be one of the capitals major bus operators, with over 2,400 staff working from our 7 operational garages. Our engineering function has over 160 staff across the Company and is entering an exciting period of development with plans to modernise our processes, structures and systems.
Fulwell is one of our biggest garages maintaining a fleet of 170 buses. We need an experienced, commercially astute Engineering Manager with great people management skills to lead our team of 30 engineering staff. Fulwell has challenging performance targets and you will have the opportunity to really make a difference. Reporting to the General Manager of Fulwell with links to the Central Engineering Team, you will oversee all the major engineering functions in the garage, including: • Day to day operational engineering – it is essential that sufficiently clean, reliable and road-worthy vehicles are available throughout the working day for allocation to service • Forward planning and department performance – your ability to effectively deal with planned maintenance and departmental cycles will be highly valued • Premises, workshop and equipment management - you will have high standards and be able to instill these in the team • Health and Safety practices and workplace 'risk' culture – your proven commitment to H&S and embedding these within the team culture is vital • Budget setting and financial control – you will be able to demonstrate your ability to set realistic budget goals and control costs. The Engineering Manager is a key member of the garage management team and also of the Engineering Management Team across the Company. We hold regular Company-wide engineering forums to share ideas and best practice and to encourage innovation. To succeed in this interesting and important role you will need a track record of management level roles within the bus industry or a similar transport environment. You will be a strong leader, able to set clear team goals, provide staff development and support and deal effectively with performance issues. You will thrive in a fast paced work environment and be comfortable taking decisions, sometimes under time pressure, whilst having the good judgement to know when to escalate issues or ask for advice.
