Tyre manufacturer Hankook used the CV Show this week (9—11 April) to introduce Alphatread, which it describes as an environmentally conscious bead-to-bead retread truck tyre range.
The Alphatread line-up has been designed for medium-haul purposes and will cover sizes for drive and trailer tyres.
Hankook claims the new rubber can help meet customer demands for reducing fleets running costs by providing a 'cradle to grave' tyre offering.
The Alphatread R-DH05, for example, is a drive axle tyre for medium haul, available in sizes 295/80 R22.5 and 315/80 R22.5. With a wide outline and special compound, the R-DH05 promises "excellent" wet and dry performance, driving stability and long-lasting wear resistance.
Hankook says that, while the extra-wide tread and deep grooves are the key to high mileage, the optimised block shape provides block rigidity, also under heavy loads, for traction and tread stability. Meanwhile, its lateral-orientated tread design, with high density grooves, helps with traction in all weathers.
As for the Alphatread R-TH22 sized 385/65 R22.5, this is the corresponding trailer tyre for medium-haul. This unit provides a five-rib tread design using a so-called cool running compound to optimise performance.
Zigzag grooves are designed in for stone ejection and crack prevention. And again, the wide, solid shoulder area provides for a higher mileage and helps to prevent belt separation.
Its massive kerfless centre rib enhances free-rolling on axle thus increasing the trailer's riding stability.
